Good Morning!

Today is the birthday of Andrew Jackson (1767 – 1845) who said:
“As long as our government is administered for the good of the people, and is regulated by their will; as long as it secures to us the rights of persons and of property, liberty of conscience, and of the press, it will be worth defending.”

and
“But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing.”

It is also the birthday of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933 - ) who said:
“Dissents speak to a future age. It's not simply to say, 'My colleagues are wrong and I would do it this way.' But the greatest dissents do become court opinions and gradually over time their views become the dominant view. So that's the dissenter's hope: that they are writing not for today but for tomorrow.”

and
“I thought, well maybe the law could catch up with changes in society, and that was an empowering idea.”

and
“So often in life the things you regard as an impediment turn out to be great, good fortune.”

Happy Birthday to David Cronenberg (1943 - ) who said:
“Do you remember when you found out you wouldn't live forever? People don't talk about this, but everybody had to go through it because you're not born with that knowledge.”

and
“Everybody's a mad scientist, and life is their lab. We're all trying to experiment to find a way to live, to solve problems, to fend off madness and chaos.”

and
“When you're in the muck you can only see muck. If you somehow manage to float above it, you still see the muck but you see it from a different perspective. And you see other things too. That's the consolation of philosophy.”

It is the birthday of Sly Stone (1943 - ) who said:
“I am no better and neither are you.
We’re all the same whatever we do.
You love me, you hate me,
You know me and then
You still can’t figure out the bag I’m in.
I am everyday people!”

and
“Stand, you've been sitting much too long, there's a permanent crease in your right or wrong.”

and
“You can make it if you try, push a little harder, think a little deeper.”

Finally, birthday greetings to Howard Devoto (1952 - ) who said:
“And we won't be together much longer

Unless we realize that we are the same”
