Good Morning!

Today is the birthday of Anaïs Nin (1903 – 1977) who said:
“We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.”

and
“Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don't know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishings.”

and
“We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”

and
“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.”

It is also the birthday of Raymond Queneau (1903 – 1976) who said:
“The poet is never inspired, because he is the master of that which appears to others as inspiration. He does not wait for inspiration to fall out of the heavens like roasted ortolans. He knows how to hunt...He is never inspired because he is unceasingly inspired, because the powers of poetry are always at his disposition, subjected to his will, submissive to his own activity...”

and
“One must see everything.”

A very happy birthday to the brilliant W.H. Auden (1907 – 1973) who said:
“Poetry might be defined as the clear expression of mixed feelings.”

and
“Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can; all of them make me laugh.”

and
“A poet is, before anything else, a person who is passionately in love with language.”

and
“Some books are undeservedly forgotten; none are undeservedly remembered.”

Today is the birthday of Erma Bombeck (1927 – 1996) who said:
“It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else.”

and
“Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere.”

It is also the birthday of Congressman John Lewis (1940 - ) who said:
“If you're not hopeful and optimistic, then you just give up. You have to take the long hard look and just believe that if you're consistent, you will succeed.”

Birthday greetings to Chuck Palahniuk (1962 - ) who said:
“It's so hard to forget pain, but it's even harder to remember sweetness. We have no scar to show for happiness. We learn so little from peace.”

and
“It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.”

and
“We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.”

and
“Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I've ever known.”

Happy Birthday and we miss you to David Foster Wallace  (1962 – 2008) who said:
“Everybody is identical in their secret unspoken belief that way deep down they are different from everyone else.”

and
“Fiction is one of the few experiences where loneliness can be both confronted and relieved.”
