Today is the birthday of Andrew Jackson (1767 – 1845) who said:

“As long as our government is administered for the good of the people, and is regulated by their will; as long as it secures to us the rights of persons and of property, liberty of conscience, and of the press, it will be worth defending.”

and

It is also the birthday of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933 - ) who said:

“Dissents speak to a future age. It's not simply to say, 'My colleagues are wrong and I would do it this way.' So that's the dissenter's hope: that they are writing not for today but for tomorrow.”
